Tais Derbasova is a multi-award winning international Bellydance instructor, performer and choreographer, based in Auckland, New Zealand. She has studied under internationally renowned teachers and choreographers of Oriental Dance. Her previous training in gymnastics and ballet help her today to incorporate the fluid motion and natural rhythm into her performances and choreographies.

Since moving to New Zealand from Russia in 2007 she started up her own Belly Dance Company "ARABELLAS BELLY DANCE”.

She regularly travels around New Zealand and overseas with workshops and performances sharing her extensive knowledge and passion with Belly Dance with others.

Tais is also the artistic director of the renowned professional Bellydance Troupe Arabellas. The troupe regularly performs at festivals and other major events throughout New Zealand and internationally.

Tais and Arabellas troupe have also appeared on national television several times, and featured in the major shows and festivals all over New Zealand, Australia, Egypt, Russia, Europe and Asia.

Some of the appearances include the Rugby World Cup, the Coca Cola Christmas in the Park, WOMAD Festival, the Sydney Middle Eastern Festival, and the Heshk Beshk International Festival in Venice.

In June 2016 Tais and Arabellas Troupe had an honour to perform in front of the New Zealand Prime Minister John Key.

She is also an official New Zealand representative, expert teacher and judge at the largest Global Belly Dance conferences 'Dance for Unity' being held  annually in Shanghai, China.

Tais was a choreographer of Geoff Allen's theatrical play, "The Secret Life of a Bellydancer" which told the story of Kiwi women struggling to learn to Bellydance. You can read more about the play here.

Tais believes dance is about freeing women to be women. The natural movement of the hips is at the spiritual core of all women, and that embracing it can free women from their fears, their doubts, their insecurities, and allow the true feminine power of any woman to shine.

Tais regularly performs at numerous events and restaurants around the Auckland area and is also available for teaching. Captivating audiences both young and old, Tais is truly passionate about Belly Dance, constantly looking to learn more and pass on her extensive knowledge. Her elegant and cheerful style made her a welcomed performer in the Middle Eastern Community.

Tais has a Degree in Linguistics and Intercultural Communication and currently works full time as a professional Belly Dance performer, instructor and choreographer.
